Top 5 Games coming to Xbox in 2019

A new year means a whole bunch of new games to get excited for which is never a bad thing. As a new writer for Bring Your Own Games, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share the games coming to Xbox this year that I’m most excited for to give you all a better idea of the kind of gamer I am. Let’s dig in!

Crackdown 3

To say that Crackdown 3 has had a tumultuous development process would be a bit of an understatement, but after after 4 and a half long years and numerous delays, Sumo Digital is finally ready to let players wreak havoc on the fictional city of New Providence, where the story takes place. Players will assume the role of an Agent, who is essentially a super soldier. Agents are dropped into New Providence after all the power the world is mysteriously shut off and the source of the outage stems from the city. The city is controlled by a mysterious organization called Terra Nova, and players have to dismantle the organization by disrupting a bunch of territories that are controlled by various gangs and bosses. All while this happening, players must go around the city and collect orbs, which will increase their Agent’s core skills – agility, firearms, strength, explosives, and driving. The game’s multiplayer mode Wrecking Zone boasts fully destructible environments which will make team play and survival unique from other games.

It’s hard to know if this game will be good or not, but the fact that it survived development hell and is ready for release in a couple of weeks is a huge achievement and is a big part of why it made this list. Hopefully Crackdown 3 can shatter everyone’s expectations and prove that the multiple delays it endured were worth it.

Gears 5

The 5th installment in the Gears of War franchise was announced last E3 and received a strongly positive reaction from fans. Microsoft’s studio The Coalition took the reigns from Epic Games to make Gears of War 4 back in 2016. GoW 4 recieved a positive reception from fans and critics, but some felt that The Coalition had played it too safe in an effort to ensure fans that the series was in the right hands. Now that the studio has gained the trust of its fans, it looks to be taking more risks this time around with Gears 5. If it all goes according to plan, this could end up being one of the best games in the Gears of War franchise.

Release Date: TBD 2019

Metro Exodus

The third game in the cult classic Metro series comes out in less than a month and any fans of the previous two games should be excited. 4A Games has taken a new approach to this game, creating larger and more spread out levels that are full of things to be explored and that house multiple missions and activities for series protagonist Artyom to explore and do. The game takes place 2 years after the events of Metro: Last Light and continues the story of Artyom, his wife Anna, and the Rangers, as they head east in search of a new life. The group will go across the post-apocalyptic Russian federation on a train called the Aurora and will encounter a variety of new mutated monsters and human enemies. The game is running on an all new engine and looks better than ever. Will this be the Metro game that makes the series become mainstream?

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2015 game Ori and the Blind Forest is set to be released sometime this year. For newcomers to the series, the Ori games are metroidvania style platformers where players assume control of Ori, a guardian spirit that goes out in search of its true destiny while learning about what happened to the lost ones. Ori and the Blind Forest received a strong reception from critics and players alike and is considered to be one of the best platformers of the generation. From what little gameplay has been shown off thus far, Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks gorgeous and looks poised to be just as good if not better than the first game.

Release Date: TBD 2019

Cyberpunk 2077

Okay so this one is a bit of a stretch since there has been no official release date announced yet for CD Projekt Red’s highly ambitious scifi game, but it isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility for it to come out this year. Announced back in 2012, Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world RPG where players assume the role of V, a mercenary who is trying to make a living in this dystopian future society where the lines between man and machine are becoming blurred as most people get cybernetic upgrades to their bodies and everything is run by corporations. The game will promise tons of weapons, cybernetics enhancements for your character, and a bigger overall scope than the studio’s previous game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. A slow stream of information has trickled through over the years since it’s announcement including a substantial gameplay video (over 40 minutes long!!) leave plenty of reasons to be excited about this game that could be the biggest thing in gaming since Red Dead Redemption 2. Some investors believe the game will be released holiday of this year and the fact that the Polish government gave CD Projekt Red a 7 million dollar grant for a game that’s needs to be released this year is another intriguing sign that this game may come sooner than people expect.
