Microsoft streamed their latest episode of Inside Xbox bringing in a slew of new announcements for hardware, games, and services. The show also teased Xbox’s E3 Press Conference which is scheduled for June 9th at 1 PM Pacific. Let’s break down some of the big new things heading to Xbox down the road.
Game Pass Ultimate
The rumors surrounding Game Pass Ultimate were confirmed today as Microsoft announced the new subscription service, which bundles Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for $14.99 a month. No other Game Pass Ulimatet plans were discussed and a release date wasn’t revealed aside from later on this year, but Microsoft did announce that current subscribers to both services can carry their subscriptions over into Game Pass Ultimate if they so wish to do so.
Xbox One S All Digital Edition
Another heavily rumored thing was also confirmed on the episode today as Microsoft officially unveiled the discless Xbox One S in a comedic commercial for it, followed by a hands on look at it from Larry Hryb and his famous white gloves. The new console is set to launch on May 7th and will start at $249.99. Microsoft also assured gamers that the discless Xbox One S will always be at least $50 less than the standard Xbox One S, including during sales and price drops.
Gears 5 ELEAGUE series coming with live tournament
Xbox and ELEAGUE have announced a partnership to bring the ELEAGUE Gears Summer Series: The Bonds and Betrayals of Brotherhood. This 6 part series and live tournament will air on TBS on Friday, June 14th at 11pm Eastern time. The series will look on some of the life stories of players in the Gears 5 ELEAGUE which will also serve as the world premiere of the multiplayer for Gears 5.
Six new backwards compatible titles coming
Six new backwards compatible titles are on their way and are recieving Xbox One X enhancements. Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Fable 3, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent are now Xbox One X enhanced and available to anyone now.
Xbox Fanfest returns
Xbox Fanfest is returning again this year for a 5th time. A lucky 700 people will be invited into Xbox’s E3 Fanfest this year which will give them prime seating for the Xbox conference, a 3-day pass to E3, a Fanfest showcase, an exclusive backpack with merchandise inside, and other awesome things. Winners will be chose by way of a lottery which people can sign up for starting this Friday, April 19th going until next Wednesday, April 24th.
Phil Spencer teases E3 2019 for Xbox
To close out the show, Larry Hryb sat down with Head of Xbox himself, Phil Spencer. In the short interview, Spencer stated that it’s important for Xbox to show off a wide range of first and third party games from all over the world since they are the only console company to be holding a live stage show at E3 this year. Spencer also said that gamers can expect to see some of the things that studios under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella have been working on. Some of these studios might include Ninja Theory who are reportedly well-into their next game which is likely to ship sometime next year as well as a possible look at Halo Infinite and maybe the big RPG that Playground Games has been working on.
