Predicting Nintendo’s 2019 Lineup

Bringing out the Big Guns.

In last week’s Nintendo article we talked about the rumors about the switch getting a new upgrade this year, and how it might not be necessary because of all the first party content to be released this year. We have already gotten games like Yoshi’s Crafted World finally, but we Nintendo has stacked the back half of the year seemingly with a major game releasing almost every month starting as early as June. This could stretch all the way to December if every game comes out on schedule.

We know how the back half of this year is going to start, with Super Mario Maker 2 releasing June 28, not long after E3. The next, and last confirmed release date for a first party game is Fire Emblem Three Houses, releasing almost a full month after Super Mario Maker 2 on July 26. Those are the only two games we have heard solid release dates for this year. After that everything becomes a game of speculation.

Without including the notable 3rd party games still coming, like Dragon Quest 11, Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, there are a ton of first and second party Nintendo games coming out this year. Astral Chain is being developed by Platinum Games and is coming at the end of August. which covers the one month hole in Nintendo’s strategy.

With Astral Chain releasing in August, Animal Crossing seems likely to come next as releasing a game like that right when the seasons are changing feels really cool watching it happen in game. October aesthetically fits with Luigi’s Mansion 3, because of spoopy ghosts and such. November is always when the big hitters come out so Pokemon seems lined up to take that spot right in the peak of holiday shopping season. And to close out the year we have The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remastered more than likely coming in December. This is a game for fans of the original and will sell about as well anywhere you put it in the year.

Some of the games may switch months, Pokemon and Animal Crossing most especially, but as far as we know, none of these games have been delayed, and considering how upsetting it would be to hear about a game getting delayed at E3, we might be expecting quite a few release dates for the major games coming this year. Metroid Prime 4 and Bayonetta 3 seem more like 2020 – 2021 games at this point. Pikmin 3 is also supposed to come out at some point, but that is a big question mark right now and seems like the least likely game to come out that has been mentioned here today. That doesn’t mean that the rest of the calendar isn’t packed as it is. There are still plenty of highly anticipated games coming up quickly that we will learn more about before long. There is a lot to be excited for in the near future for Nintendo fans.
